About Us

Exterior view of Stubb's Bar-B-Q with a vintage sign.

C.B. Stubblefield started slinging slow-smoked meat out of a Lubbock shack in the 1960s, and the legend he built eventually landed at 801 Red River St, right in the beating heart of Austin's live music corridor. Over 6,800 reviewers have weighed in with a 4.3-star consensus: this place delivers. The smell hits you before you even reach the door, that low, sweet drift of post oak smoke that no amount of air conditioning can contain.

The property itself is as much a venue as a restaurant. The outdoor amphitheater has hosted everyone from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Billie Eilish. But even on a quiet Tuesday, the indoor dining room buzzes with the particular energy of a room where the food earns the crowd. Portions are famously generous, the all-you-can-eat lunch option is a local rite of passage, and the brisket is sliced thick with that signature smoke ring that pit masters spend careers chasing.

This is not a theme-park version of Texas BBQ. Stubb's Bar-B-Q is the original, the reference point, the place visitors compare every other Austin BBQ spot against. Come hungry.

What We Offer

The restaurant runs seven days a week, opening at 11:00 AM daily. The menu anchors on Central Texas staples: brisket, ribs, pulled pork, sausage links, and smoked turkey, all served with sides like jalapeño cheese grits, potato salad, and pinto beans. The all-you-can-eat lunch option is the move for first-timers who want to taste everything without making hard choices.

Beyond the plate, Stubb's operates three distinct live music spaces: the 2,750-capacity outdoor amphitheater, the mid-size Waller Creek Amphitheater, and the intimate indoor Indoors stage. Between the three, the calendar runs nearly every night of the week across genres from country and blues to hip-hop and indie rock. Full bar service runs throughout, with local Texas craft beers, cocktails, and a lineup of frozen drinks built for summer heat.

The venue also handles private events, corporate buyouts, and festival-style gatherings. Whether you're booking a table for two or a stage for two thousand, the Red River address handles both with the same no-nonsense Texas hospitality that made C.B. Stubb famous in the first place.

"Stubb’s Bar-B-Q If you’re in Austin and don’t stop at Stubb’s, you’re seriously missing out. This place is the definition of authentic Texas BBQ. From the moment you walk in, you can smell that slow-smoked goodness in the air — and it only gets better from there. The brisket is unbelievably tender, perfectly seasoned, and melts in your mouth with every bite. The ribs? Fall-off-the-bone perfection. Every side dish tastes homemade, especially the mac and cheese and baked beans that pair perfectly with the smoky meats. You can tell everything is made with care and tradition. What really sets Stubb’s apart is the atmosphere. It’s not just a restaurant — it’s an Austin experience. Great vibes, friendly staff, and live music that makes the whole meal even better. It feels like a true Texas gathering spot where everyone is welcome. Hands down, one of the best BBQ spots in Texas. Five stars all day long — I’ll definitely be back every time I’m in Austin! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"

"This place is ridiculous. The original location of Stubb’s BBQ. The food was amazing. I’m not going to say it’s the best bbq I’ve ever had but I spent twice as much at another well known place about a mile from here and had to throw away most of it. It’s generous portions of delicious meat and sides and I had to take most of it home with me. The service is great and they have live music as well! I don’t even know what else to say. Eat here. You won’t regret it."

"I came in by myself for lunch a few days ago & got the all you can eat option since it was my first time having bbq in Austin Texas. Let me start off by saying .. wow - the portions are huge! My favorite was the beef brisket! The creamed spinach & Mac & cheese was also yummy. The homemade bread with some butter was mouth watering. They let me bring all my leftovers home (which was A LOT after my refill on protein). The service was great as well! They were on top of everything the entire time & made me feel really welcomed. I really enjoyed everything here :)"

"Went twice. First was dinner, that was fine. Not heavily seasoned, but got woody taste. Enjoyed, but did not love. Tried three meats and two sides and two meats and two sides. Fine. Decent portions. Again- just not great. Second time was Gospel Brunch. BAD!! One of the worst meals in Austin. Cheap meat that was all fat on the brisket. We were brought trays- first had eggs with tortillas, bacon and potatoes. Second had bbq of chicken, pork, brisket and ribs. Bland and fatty. We actually told and showed waiter that it was inedible fat. Tge buffet is fruit, biscuits and watery gravy and banana pudding. Not worth $45 per person. Never cleaned or refilled table with fruit etc. Was sitting next to it and it was gross. We paid $5 extra to see band from our table, then a party with huge men were seated next to us directly blocking any view. No matter. The music was inconsistent with brunch and enjoyment. Not the voices or playing, but the song choices and 15 minutes of blathering. Completely kills any mood. Will not return as it is not worth it."

"I always enjoy going to concerts at Stubbs. It’s a smaller venue so anywhere you stand will have a great view. Tickets are usually reasonably priced. There’s great drink options. And if you want to go out after the concert, the venue is right downtown and close to other restaurants and bars."
